VISIT ATLANTA

6 REASONS TO VISIT ATLANTA

1. Beautiful Weather

April temperatures average in the mid-60s, with the spring's lowest precipitation levels. Join us at the SAWC Spring/WHS from April 19–22 at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta. You'll enjoy temperate, sunny weather that is perfect for getting out and taking advantage of all the Big Peach has to offer.

2. World-class Museums and Attractions

Atlanta offers unique opportunities to stroll through a slice of international history, dive into the world’s largest aquarium, take in an exhibit of iconic art — and more. Here is a quick look at just a handful of the options.

3. Centennial Olympic Park (Left)

After the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, a large portion of the site was closed and redesigned for daily public use. Now, on your way to the Georgia World Congress Center, you can stroll through the immaculately landscaped 21-acre park. Try to catch the fountain show. Water height during normal fountain operation can reach 12 feet, but during a show, sprays can be from 15 to 30 feet high, ensuring dazzling displays.  Learn more at www.centennialpark.com.

4. Georgia Aquarium

With more than 10 million gallons of marine and fresh water and more than 120,000 animals from 500 species, this is the world’s largest aquarium (with more wildlife than any other) and home to four young beluga whales. The Georgia Aquarium’s 6.3 million-gallon Ocean Voyager all but puts visitors inside the tank, which houses four young whale sharks and four manta rays. In addition, the aquarium’s six distinct galleries depict different aquatic habitats, ranging from arctic to tropical waters. Learn more at www.georgiaaquarium.org.

5. High Museum of Art

Want to see the greats all in one place? The High Museum exhibition, Picasso to Warhol, will be open during the SAWC Spring/WHS and your stay. Exclusively in Atlanta, the exhibit features about 100 works of art created by 12 of the most iconic artists from the 20th century: Picasso, Matisse, Brancusi, Mondrian, Léger, Duchamp, De Chirico, Miró, Calder, Pollock, Johns and Warhol. Atlanta.net calls it “one of the largest concentrations of modern art masterpieces to ever be exhibited in the southeastern United States.” Learn more at www.high.org.

6. Unique Shopping Neighborhoods

Atlanta’s style scene has much to offer across the city’s eclectic neighborhoods. Little Five Points, Atlanta’s bohemian district, is home to diverse shops chock-full of vintage offerings. Historic Virginia Highland, the most popular neighborhood for shopping, dining and nightlife, features charming bungalow homes, sidewalk cafes and trendsetting apparel at hip boutiques. Shops of all kinds, sidewalk cafes and hip restaurants reign at Atlantic Station, which is designed to feel like a city within a city. It’s a model for sustainable neighborhood development. What’s more, you can hop a free shuttle at the Arts Center MARTA (public transportation) station. Buckhead, the design and cultural district, is your go-to place for unique antiques, hard-to-find books and distinctive gifts. If it’s luxury you’re looking for, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are your go-to destinations.
